Phosphor
Phosphor is a first-person shooter created with Macromedia Director. The Shockwave Player allows the game to run within a web browser on Windows and Mac OS computers. Both single player (with AI-controlled bots) and multiplayer (using peer-to-peer Internet or LAN connections) game modes are supported. Our goal is to create a gaming experience similar to classic FPS games…
Haze
On the surface, Haze does everything right. Its mechanics are rock solid, collision detection is spot on, the guns have a great feel, and there’s an attempt at a moral message to the storyline. Digging deeper, Haze falls apart and becomes nothing more than a forgettable FPS with some fun four player online co-op.
Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds
Always a fun time, Sony’s Hot Shots Golf is the only annual competition for EA’s superlative Tiger Woods series. While aiming at different audiences, both games nail their golfing mechanics soundly. This PS3 version of now 10 year old Hot Shots series doesn’t revolutionize anything, but this is still excellent golf.
Soul Calibur
The date of 9-9-99 should ring familiar to gamers. The Dreamcast launched alongside Namco’s epic fighter Soul Calibur on that September day, setting a precedent Dreamcast developers would struggle to match for the lifespan of the console. On the Live Arcade, the game proves it has extensive legs in its gameplay, but Namco has botched this port by excluding vital features.
Bionic Commando Rearmed
It’s amazing what taking such a simple feature such as jumping out of game to do. Over the years, it’s something we’ve become so accustomed to, it’s impossible to live without. Bionic Commando didn’t just take it out, it replaced with a far more difficult to master mechanic, the bionic arm. A video game legacy was born.
Galaga Legions
Developed by the same team that handled an immense and spectacular Pac-Man sequel to the Live Arcade, the sophomore outing has a lot to live up to. Galaga Legions is unquestionably a fantastic shooter, but it’s not to Galaga as Pac-Man Championship Edition was to Pac-Man. This is a radically new game that happens to share some of the original assets.
Viva Pinata 2 Offers Four Player Co-op Gardening
Look, it was embarrassing to admit you hooked on a game where you bred pinatas. With the sequel, you can share in that embarrassment with three other friends online and realize you’re not truly alone.
The way it works is simple. The host loads up their garden. Other players enter. Other players become cruel jerks and beat all of the hosts pinatas with a shovel… or you can be nice and help them out, but what’s the fun in that? If you’re worried about some random Live user ruining your painstakingly created garden, don’t worry. It won’t ruin your save.
Kratos Enters World of Golf
If thought Kratos was ticked off when the gods defied him, just imagine what he’ll do when he misses a five foot birdie putt on the 18th. Sony has decided to let Kratos out a little by making him a downloadable character in Hot Shots Golf Open Tee on the PS3. The best part? Kratos is apparently only worth $2 on the open market. That’s a steal for someone who can kill ancient mythological gods.
EyeToy Kinetic Fitness Game
Jump into a real heart-pumping workout with your PlayStation and the kinesthetic fitness activities on this innovative video game! Users will show up on the TV screen in real time (thanks to the included EyeToy camera) as they perform strength exercises inspired by kick boxing, aerobics, dance, and yoga. Use the game’s “virtual” personal trainers to set up customized workout routines, or just play along as the game provides encouragement, real-time direction, and energetic music. EyeToy: Kinetic Fitness Video Game is available separately and with a game console.
Assassin's Creed
Become a deadly assassin in the Holy Land of 1191 AD in Assassin's Creed ($60/360 or PS3). Incredibly detailed with historically-accurate models of Jerusalem, Damascus, and Acre, the game features an open level design, high-concept story, and plenty of fighting — a great mix of history, intrigue, and action that should be perfect for that post-Halo 3 hangover.
